The Building Stewards play an important role in our community. They serve as the primary contact for helping residents get personally prepared for a disaster. They also assist residents in coping with common emergencies by being a good neighbor ready to help, and remain calm in any emergency.
The goal is to have a Building Steward for each building in the community. Interested in becoming a Building Steward? Just contact us at hlemergencypreparednessgroup@gmail.com.
Be a Volunteer Building Steward
Your responsibilities as a Building Steward include:
Before a Disaster
Encourage your neighbors to become personally prepared for emergencies.
Distribute information from EPG about emergency preparation to the residents in your building.
If requested, assist your neighbor in making their personal preparedness plan. Help a neighbor think through their personal planning.
Attend EPG meetings to learn more (optional).
After a Disaster
Check on residents in the building and report urgent needs to the Phase Captain*.
Complete the Resident Survey form and deliver to the Phase Captain*.
Remain calm and return to your building to support the residents until help arrives.
*Phase Captains
Phase Captains are Building Stewards who serve as a support for the Building Stewards in their Phase or Partial Phase within Landmark. During a disaster response, Phase Captains will conduct a resident survey in their own assigned buildings, then meet the Building Stewards at a designated location to collect the Resident Survey forms and provide them to the Tactical Teams and First Aid Teams for follow up response.
We currently have a high need for Building Stewards. Please see the file below of buildings without Building Stewards.
